Here at Birch Chemicals we’re committed to giving back to our local community, and one of the ways we do that is through our support of St Bede’s Catholic Academy and its careers programme.
Birch Chemicals Business Development Director Steve Foster has been working in close partnership with St Bede’s since early 2020, providing advice and support aimed at helping students get an insight into the workplace and develop the skills needed for employment.
“Working with St Bede’s is a fantastic opportunity to help support the UK’s future workforce,” says Steve. “It also provides us with a unique insight into the students of today, their aspirations for the future, and how we can help them achieve that.”
Vic Taylor, the Careers Leader for St Bede’s, said, “St Bede’s is very lucky to be able to draw from the expertise of Birch Chemicals. Steve brings a completely different perspective to the planning of our careers programme, using his years of industry knowledge and contacts to support our work in school.”
The St Bede’s careers development logo, developed by Birch Chemicals, allows students to easily identify careers-related learning during lessons and related material.
“Making sure careers development is embedded within the curriculum has become very important,” says Lucy Gray, Enterprise Coordinator for the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, which enables the links between schools in the Humber and local employers. “The careers development logo allows students to quickly and easily identify that a subject is careers-focused, answering the question of ‘Why do I need to learn this?'”
Future plans for St Bede’s and Birch Chemicals include post-Covid-19 trips to the site, lesson takeovers and further development of class resources – and Steve is excited about what the future holds.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to work with St Bede’s for a long time,” he says. “There’s still a lot we have to offer.”
