Birch Chemicals
With a 200 year reputation for innovation, Birch Chemicals is committed to providing high- quality specialty chemicals to the Rubber, Plastics, Coatings and Adhesive markets - but our environment and social governance (ESG) shape everything we do.
Our ESG means we lead by example, taking responsibility and accountability at all levels, with over 50% of our profits distributed to charity by the Katherine Martin Trust. And we respect the individual, respecting each and every member of our team for their knowledge, skills and background as individuals. We're committed to our communities, broadening our skills, experience and perspectives through work and charity in our communities, and we’re open and honest in our communication, sharing information, insight and advice frequently and constructively.
Our environmental and social governance, and our commitment to the safety of our team and our clients' teams is reflected in our award-winning safety operating procedures and plans. We've been consistently recognised for our commitment to safety on an annual basis by the Mineral Products Association, along with winning awards from the European Aggregates Association and the Industrial Minerals Association.
Creating a safe place to work and fostering the good health of our team is important to us. That's why we operate an Occupational Management System to BS OHSAS 18001:2007, ensuring that we strive for continual improvement in all that we do.
As members of the Mineral Products Association, we've won awards and received recognition for our dedication to health and safety within not only our organisation but the industry as a whole.

We strive for sustainable, environmentally conscious action in everything we do. Accredited to ISO 14001:2004 standard since 2001, we've established a non-hazardous landfill site as part of our award-winning restoration efforts on our main Melton Ross site. Over 65 acres of previous quarried land has been restored back to productive agricultural land and is producing crop yields at least as high as that prior to quarrying.
To date we've planted 20,000 trees and several kilometres of hedgerows as part of our restoration of a disused quarry, which is now open to local villagers as a woodland trail.
Supporting our local and national communities is an important part of our environmental and social governance. As part of our ongoing efforts, we partner with universities, providing scientific support to students and faculty - and we provide career support and mentoring to students at local schools, along with holding frequent Open Days touring our facilities.
